Marnetta “Netta” Harper, 83, of Handley, West Virginia, departed this life, January 17, 2020, with the memory of Psalm 23. She was born July 3, 1936, to the late Alfred and Louise Martin of London, WV.
Netta graduated from Washington High School, London, WV. She married at age 19 and through the marriage had four sons and one daughter with the late Walker Denolly Conliffe. After the passing of her husband she was then married to Willian “Bubba” Harper for over forty years.
Netta retired from West Virginia Institute of Technology with twenty years of service where she was a cashier in the cafeteria. She loved music, playing spades and talking with her friends. Netta pitched and played shortstop for the London Green Sox, coached by the late William Parks. She especially enjoyed cooking during the holidays and hosting family and friends. Netta loved to travel with her husband, Bubba, in the US and abroad. She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, London.
Netta was preceded in death by her son, Glen Conliffe, parents, Alfred and Louise Martin, three brothers; Alfred Martin, Edward Martin and Nathaniel Martin, two sisters; Ella Davis and Olivia Boone.
Netta leaves to cherish her memory, husband, William Harper and family, three sons; Gregory (Debra) Conliffe, Institute, WV, Anthony Conliffe, Winfield, WV, and Walker Conliffe Jr., Montgomery, WV, daughter, Sheree Nelson, Knoxville, TN, brother, Chris Martin, London, WV, sister, Lillian Sanders, Staten Island, NY, twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, special aunt, Bea, and sister-in-law, Bessie Martin, Fayetteville,, NC and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
God saw the road getting rough and He decided to take Netta home to rest, where there will always be peace. She will be greatly missed, and her memory will be cherished and loved forever.
