Betty Jean Overstreet Tate, 85, of Charleston, WV died May 19, 2019. She was a born, August 23, 1933, to the late Edward and Zedia Overstreet. Betty was a lifelong resident of Charleston, but she spent her winters with family in Los Angeles, CA
Betty studied at Garnet High School, where she graduated in 1951. While at Garnet, Betty was a cheerleader and was voted “best dressed in her class. After graduating high school, she married William E. Tate, Jr. of Charleston and to this union two children were born. Early in her career Betty worked as a secretary for many years at Kanawha County Courthouse, eventually retiring as the legislative secretary for the state of West Virginia. She was a lifelong member of the Charleston Women's Club.
Betty is preceded in death by her father, Edward, mother, Zedia, brother, Charles Edward Overstreet, and sister, Rosa Mae Roberts.
Betty is survived by son, William "Chip" Tate III, and daughter, Sherry Tate John, both of California; grandchildren, Sabino Edward Saint John and Sofia John; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
