Denise Jones Obituary

Denise Jones, 64, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Affectionately known as “Nise” and “Sister," Denise was born to Sister Lincoln Jones and Eugene Jones, Sr., in Patterson, New Jersey, on January 5, 1959.

Nise graduated from Barringer High School, where she was a choir member and led the pep squad during rival football games. In 2009, Nise earned an associate degree and in 2011, she earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from The Abundant Life Ministries Bible College. Nise had an extensive employment history of over 30 years. She worked in the culinary field and was an employee of several restaurants including Applebee’s and Olive Garden. Nise retired from Olive Garden over two years ago.

Over 20 years ago, Nise relocated to Charleston, WV. Prior to relocating, Nise was baptized at The Greater Abyssinian Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, where she was a choir member. Shortly after her relocation to Charleston, she rededicated herself at the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to The Father’s House Missionary Baptist Church.

Sister Denise was a member of many missionaries, including the Mass Choir, Pastor’s Aid Society, and President of the Usher Board. Nise was the church cook, a responsibility which included serving breakfast every Sunday and cooking for special events such as church picnics, anniversaries, and Vacation Bible School. Sister Denise also served as a Sunday School Teacher.

Nise consistently praised God.  Her favorite saying was “” Hallelujah” “Hallelujah." She had a big personality that lit up any room she entered. Thank GOD she was able to live her life to the fullest and accomplish most of her life goals.

Nise found her passion and purpose early in life. Sister Denise is described as a sinner who fell in love with Jesus Christ, the son of The Living GOD. Her street ministry, which she loved dearly, was feeding the hungry and sharing her testimony of God’s goodness. On Thursdays and major holidays, she fed the hungry.

Nise has one beloved son, James Jones (Muhammad) and daughter in law Cassandra ’Nisey” Hagans, whom she loved dearly. Nise and her son had a special relationship. When he made surprise visits, she glowed with pride.

Nise was preceded in death by her beloved older brother, Allen Jones.
