Edith Marie Nixon Hall Obituary

Edith Marie “Edie” Nixon Hall, 76, of Dunbar, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023. She was born in Laing, WV. The family moved to Dunbar, WV, when she was an infant. Edie eventually ended up with six sisters, one brother, and always some type of family dog. Her parents are the late William “Will” Nixon and Carrie Marie Drake Nixon. Edie’s father was a coal miner, and her mother was a housekeeper.

Edie was raised up in the little “Old Ferguson” that was located across the street from the now existing Ferguson Memorial Baptist Church. She also went to the two-room school next to the church. They later moved the students to Shawnee Elementary School. Edie went on to Dunbar High School and graduated in 1965.

In 1967, Edie started at West Virginia State College and went two years then decided to join the Army Reserves. She served her country for over ten years and traveled around to several states and abroad.

Edie met her soul mate, Preston Winford Hall, Sr., in 1977 and they married in 1980. Between the two of them they have three children, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. All of them are the love of their lives.

Edie worked for the Board of Education as a reading assistant for eight years and then went to the Department of Highways where she worked for 31 years as an office assistant. She retired June 30, 2006 and enjoyed her free time with family and traveling more. She truly enjoyed shopping, working puzzles and some quiet time. Her true passion was decorating her home, the homes of family and friends, and Ferguson Baptist Church. Edie was known for her beautiful Christmas-theme home. Everyone would come and visit just to take a tour and feel as though they were at the North Pole. She thoroughly displayed it with a big warm smile.Edie’s church ministries were Deaconess, Usher Board, Mass Choir, Sisters of Praise Dance Team, Church Beautification and Head of the Greeters. She was a faithful church member and a living miracle that is a child of God.
