Hubert Austin Tyler, Sr., 89, of Charleston, WV passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021. He was born April 14, 1932, to the late Linwood and Emma Tyler.
Hubert was educated in Kanawha County schools and was an active member of Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was employed by the City of Charleston and retired after thirty years of service.
Some of the greatest joys in Hubert’s life was his family. He loved family gatherings, playing the lottery, and going to church.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, son, Hubert Tyler, Jr., sisters; Virginia Wiggins, Katherine Burrells and Charlotte Jackson, brothers; Robert Walker, Sr., Warren Tyler, William “Bill” Tyler, Sr., Elder Lonzo Tyler, Sr., and Cleothus “Clea” Tyler, stepdaughters; Deborah Anderson Calloway, Tonya Calloway, and Jacqueline Calloway, and nephews, Clyde Tyler, Sr., and William "Bill" Tyler.
Hubert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth Lee Tyler, children, Doretha "Red" Tyler, and Gloria "Penny" Calloway, all of Charleston, WV, Darlene Calloway, Ronald Calloway, James Calloway, Rena Calloway, Diane Crawford (Ricky), and Marie Patterson (Kenny), all of Lynchburg, VA, fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, Warren E. Tyler and Theodore Tyler, family, and friends.
During the final days of Hubert's earthly journey, he was cared for by his daughter, Gloria Calloway. Hubert’s life and passing are reminders to the living to approach each day with vigor and an unwavering support for all those whom we hold dear.
