Kai Edward Haynes, 73, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away January 4, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice House. He was born in Charleston February 9, 1950, to the late Henry and Mary Haynes.
Kai was a graduate of Charleston High School and attended West Virginia State College and Morris Harvey College.
Known for a long career as a professional musician, Kai was revered by many for his artistry as a bass player. The groups that he was a member include: the King Sound Interpreters, Silver Penny, Joi, Bob Thompson Trio, Voodoo Katz, and New Old Souls. Additionally, Kai worked many years as an Audio Consultant and retired from the WV Tax Department.
In addition to his parents, Kai was preceded in death by his brother, Marc Haynes.
Kai is survived by his son, Cosmos Boekell, brothers, Nils Hayes (Cassandra), and Ken Haynes, sisters, Gail Breckenridge, Toni Haynes, and Ina Haynes, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A musical celebration of Kai’s life is planned for a later date to be determined.
