Karen Elizabeth Upp Delahoussaye, 65, of Charleston, WV, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022. She was born Wednesday, October 31, 1956, to the late Kenneth Lyle Upp and Caroline Marie Montgomery Upp.
Karen, the youngest of three siblings, was born in Ohio and grew up in Greenfield. She later moved to Oakland, California, and was blessed with her first child, Kenneth Shawn Lamont Ashley. Soon after his arrival, Karen returned to Ohio, where she attended Hocking Technical College to pursue a nursing career. In fulfilling her aspiration, she obtained her professional nursing license, June 9, 1978. Karen continued working for 40 years in the Neonatal Unit, caring for neonates and premature infants in various hospital Intensive Care Units. She married Hugh Lee Dalton (deceased) in 1979 and became the stepmother to two teen-aged girls, Nicole Dalton Uhler (Robert), and Danielle Dalton Kelley (Robert). Karen gave birth to her second child, Hugh Lee Dalton II , in Athens, Ohio. She relocated several times, finding “home”, in WV, Ohio and California. Karen ultimately found happiness and married Robert Delahoussaye in 2003. She loved and cared for him until his passing, April 7, 2021.
Karen’s love of travel and her adventurous spirit afforded her the opportunity to visit many international destinations, including Brazil, Mexico, and Australia. Karen lived her life unapologetically, compassionately, and courageously.
Karen was preceded in passing by her husband, Robert Delahoussaye, brother, David Upp, and sister, Katheryn Upp.
Karen’s memories will forever continue in the hearts of her children, Shawn Ashley (Danielle) and Lee Dalton, II, grandchildren, Alexia Ashley,
Zavier Ashley, Kingston Ashley, Amari Ashley, Shayne Dalton, Kace Dalton, Oaklynn Dalton, Cameron Newton, and Braylon Newton.
Karen has heartened the lives of her family and friends that became like family. She will be greatly missed by everyone she has touched.
