Lorraine Hankins, 84, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023, at CAMC Memorial in Charleston. She was born February 22, 1939, to late parents, Jack and Luvenia Hankins, in Charleston, WV.
Lorraine was a devoted mother who poured her love into her family. She had a passion for knitting and creating scarves, hats, and blankets for her loved ones. Her green thumb was evident in her beautifully landscaped yard, where she enjoyed planting vibrant flowers. Lorraine had an undying love for music, which was even more profound because her siblings were exceptionally talented musicians.
Lorraine had a heartwarming way of opening her home to her children’s friends, treating them as her own. Her friendly and welcoming nature meant that she never met a stranger, and had a wide circle of friends. In her early years Lorraine was a choir member at Riverview Baptist Church on Wertz Avenue in Charleston, WV. Before her health declined and other challenges, she was a member and regularly attended First Baptist Church of Charleston, WV.
Lorraine retired from WV Division of Rehabilitation Services, in Institute, after 32 years of service. She touched the lives of many through her work.
Along with her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her son, Lewis Hankins, brothers, Lee Hankins, Howard Hankins, and James Hankins, and sisters, Rita Hankins, and Mary Hankins Haynes.
Lorraine is survived by her loving daughters, Lisa Bradley, South Charleston, WV, Cynthia Chester, Garner, NC, and Doris Hankins Smith, Austell, GA, grandchildren, Shawnda Strobel, Angie McReaken, Alisha Nicole Bradley, Tanya Bradley, Keila Lorraine Smith, and Christian Pullin, 11 great grandchildren, Maurice, Michael, Shawn, Cristian, Elle, Molly, Zachary, Crosby, Rodney, Amir, and Kenan, 4 great-great grandchildren, Malik, Mareon, Mason, and Malaya, sister, Frances Wiggins, Dunbar, WV, brother, Spurgeon Hankins (Marty), Charleston, WV, and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
Lorraine Hankins will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
