Mark Elliott McDaniel, 48, of London, West Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 4, 2022. He was born April 28, 1974, to Gloria McDaniel Thompson and Donald “Poochie” Grooms, Sr.
Mark was baptized at an early age under the pastorage of the late Rev. David Smith and became a member of the First Baptist Church of London, WV. He attended Dupont High School, class of 1992, and WV Junior College. Mark was a service worker for United Parcel Service (UPS).
From an early age Mark loved the sport of football and baseball. He was an all-star player from little league throughout high school. Mark also coached little league football and was dearly loved and respected by the children.
Mark loved vacationing with his family at the beach. He also loved his family and friends and was always doing things to help anyone in need. Moreso, Mark loved bringing smiles to the lives he touched. On July 4, 2022, he fulfilled his vision to bring family, friends, and the community of London together again by hosting a picnic at his home. He titled the occasion “Where It All Began.” This celebration was the highlight of his last days with us.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Mary Louise McDaniel, great-grandparents, Carl and Mary Jackson, and Richard and Cora Grooms, and uncles, Maurice “Ty” McDaniel and Carl Grooms, Sr.
Mark is survived by his sons, Anthony Zickafoose and Cameron Zickafoose, daughters, Cierra Ballinger and Kaira McDaniel, mother, Gloria McDaniel Thompson (Kenneth), father, Donald “Poochie” Grooms, Sr. (Paula), grandmother, Mildred Grooms, brothers, Derrick McDaniel, Donald Grooms, Jr., and Rev. Andrew Payne, sister, Cora Grooms, fiancée, Traci Ford, special sons in love, Roland Ford and Kayne Dillard, and a host of loving uncles, aunts, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Homegoing services will be Monday, September 12, 2022, noon, at Brookside Ministries COGIC, 18419 Deepwater Mountain Rd., Mt. Carbon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Interment at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Callender Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
