Marlene Mells Obituary

Marlene Odessa Mells, 65, of South Charleston, West Virginia, gained her wings to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, October 10, 2023, after many years battling illness. She was born April 23, 1958, to the late Earl William Mells and Beatrice Mells.

Marlene grew up in Cleveland, OH, and later in life married Spencer Sharp. She moved to Charleston, WV, where she remained a resident. Marlene graduated from East Technical High School and continued her education at Cuyahoga County Community College. In 1998, she took employment with SCNA, a private care facility where she loved taking care of people including her family, whom she dearly loved and always carried in her heart.

In 1981, Marlene gave life to her son, Marcus Sharp, who was her pride and joy. Marcus blessed her with three grandchildren.

Marlene always had a genuine love for family. She was a human data system that was amazing. Marlene knew everyone’s birthday, age, date of passing, and location, including the children of others. Her undying devotion, faithfulness and loyalty is what kept her hopeful in trying times when struggling with her illness and life, which sometimes looked as if it was going to get the best of her. She overcame every obstacle, not for herself but for her family’s sake. Marlene is resting well, has finished her course, and has kept the faith.

Marlene was preceded in death by siblings Leonard Tucker, Earl Waymon Mells, Lillian Reed, Magdalene Mells, Sandra Fears and Stephanie Lumpkin.

Marlene is survived by her son, Marcus Sharp (Tiffany), Georgetown, KY, grandchildren, Marcus Sharp, Jr., Naquan Roberts and Amani Sharp, brothers, Henry Tucker, Solon, OH, James Tucker, Memphis, TN, Vincent Mells (Salema), Newton, NC, Frank Mells (Rhonda) Huntington, WV, Myron Mells, Coshocton, OH, and sisters, Marguerite Mells, Fort Worth, TX and Hattie Mells, Cleveland, OH, a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, who loved her dearly.

We will miss Marlene dearly, but we take comfort in that she is now in a better place, free from pain and suffering. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Her unwavering faith in God was an inspiration to us all.
