Mary Margaret McCray Parker, 82, of Dunbar, West Virginia, daughter of the late Isaac McCray and Mary Belle Williams, passed Saturday, July 8, 2023. The tenth and youngest child, she was born June 19, 1941, in West Virginia.
Mary attended public school in Institute, WV, and as an adult moved to Washington, DC , where she met and married Harry Cordell Parker, a single father of a son, Larry. Mary worked as a nurse’s assistant for several years at local hospitals throughout Washington, DC, and Maryland until she retired. The sense of adventure that brought Mary to Washington remained with her as she enjoyed bowling, roller skating, fishing, crab feasts, softball, concerts on the beach, and an assortment of other outdoor activities.
A devout Christian in her adult years, Mary joined and was active in many churches in the Washington, DC, and Maryland area. As her health began to decline, she moved into an assisted living facility and eventually into a nursing home. Mary returned to WV to be under the supervision of her nieces, Valarie Green, and Rita Johnson.
Mary’s infectious smile and endearing laughter will always be remembered by her host of relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Parker, stepson, Larry Smith, brothers, Wilbur, Daniel, James, Isaac, Jr., and Nathan and sisters, Eloise, Rebecca, Viola, and Emma Jean.
