Mercedes Marie Chambers, Jr., 66, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024. She was born October 29,1957, to late parents, James Howard Chambers, Sr., and Mercedes Chambers, Sr., and raised in Rand, West Virginia.
Mercedes grew up with her cousins from Roanoke, Virginia, Lisa Turpin, Zain Turpin, and Tony Turpin, and cousin, Van Turpin. She was close to them all.
Mercedes attended Dupont Jr. High School and Dupont High School. After graduating in 1975, she attended Marshall University and then received a bachelor’s degree in business at WV State College.
Mercedes worked for the postal service for over 27 years and retired early to take care of her sick mother and her surviving brother, James Chambers, who had suffered a stroke.
Mercedes was a beautiful hardworking loving mother and grandmother to Melissa "Missy" Chambers, and granddaughter, Ahvani (“VV” aka “her little girl”) Ruiz, who she helped raise and gave life to her family.
Mercedes was the number one Dallas Cowboys fan and went to their games. She loved to travel to see dem boys play before having several stokes over the years. Mercedes loved Marshall University football and WVU football (only when Marshall wasn't playing that day). She had to watch WVU football play.
Mercedes was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on December 2, 1989. Though she endured much pain and suffering, she was always in attendance at her Christian Meetings and had a deep love for her God Jehovah. Mercedes had faith in the resurrection that one day soon those sleeping in death would live again on a peaceful new earth free of pain and suffering.
Mercedes is survived by her daughter, Melissa “Missy” Chambers, her beloved granddaughter, Ahvani Ruiz, and brother, James Howard Chambers, Jr., both of Rand, WV, nephew, Brian Brown, Charleston, WV, beloved family members, and a host of friends. Mercedes also leaves behind the family dog, Seattle Chambers, who she adored.
Words can't describe how much she was loved and adored by her family and friends. The love she had for her daughter was pure love and Ahvani “VV”, who she deeply loved, was her pride and joy. She will be dearly missed.
