Pastor Michael Edward “Trombone” Jones, 54, departed this life Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston. He was born July 10, 1967, in Augusta, Georgia and was son of the late Johnny E. Jones and Beatrice “Bea” Hart.
Pastor Jones gave his life to Christ December 22, 1991, at the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana, and has been a member of Ferguson Baptist Church, Dunbar, since 1994, where he was associate pastor and served in various capacities. Pastor Jones was well accomplished and pursued many passions. He accepted the call to ministry and was ordained as a minister in April 2001. Pastor Jones crossed the burning sands for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity in April 1988, where he was known as “The Wisdom Keeper”. He loved sports, music, art and working with men and children. Throughout his career, Pastor Jones worked as a counselor, program coordinator, fatherhood specialist for the Kanawha Institute for Social Research, Inc. (KISRA) and finished his career as Interim CEO for KISRA.
Preceded in Pastor Jones death are his parents, and sisters, Johnnie Ruth Hart Brister, and Mary Hart.
Pastor Jones leaves to mourn his two daughters, Bianca Washington, and Briana Washington, both of Charleston, WV, grandson, Keegan Washington, three brothers, Abe Jones, Augusta, GA, Marcus Hart, Charlotte, NC, and Santonia Ervin, Waynesboro, GA, four sisters, Martha Hart, Burke Co., GA, Diane Jones and Leslie Hart, both of Augusta, GA, and LaTonya Ervin, Waynesboro, GA, a very dear friend, Sonja Rogers, South Charleston, WV, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, fraternity brothers and friends.
