Welford “Larry” Haines, Jr., affectionately known as “Lil Larry”, 44 of Charleston, WV, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, from complications of a chronic illness. Larry is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, where he enlisted from 1999 until 2006. He worked in Intelligence, which took him to Kuwait for one tour, then was stationed in Yuma, AZ, for the duration of his service. After an honorable discharge, Larry was employed by National Travel Service, the U.S. Postal Service, and Walgreens. Larry was outgoing, always smiling, and enjoyed time with family and friends. He could be referred to as “The Life of the Party”. Being a father was Larry’s pride and joy.
Larry was preceded in death by his grandfather, Isaiah Ridley, Richmond, VA, stepfather, Charles Tucker, Richmond, VA, grandparents, Herman and Ruth Haines, Richmond, VA, and grandparents, William G. and Jessie Travis, Tazwell, VA.
Larry is survived by his wife, Alia Haines, Charleston, WV, sons, Alijah Price and Xavier Haines, both of Charleston, WV, mother, Mary Ridley-Tucker, Richmond, VA, father, Welford L. Haines, Sr. (Candace), Dunbar, WV, grandmother, Grace Ridley, Richmond, VA, siblings, Samantha Ridley, Richmond, VA and Cory Haines, Charlotte, NC, nephews, Da’Quanz Ridley and Samontey Ridley, both of Richmond, VA. Larry also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins that are siblings at heart, extended family, and friends.
Larry’s arrangements are being handled by Callender Funeral Home in Charleston, WV. He is an organ donor through the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE). In death Larry will give the gift of life to save many. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
